For participating in Opal's Walk for Freedom - Virtual Event

My Story…

In the early morning light of Wednesday June 19th, hundreds of supporters will gathered at the starting line, ready to lace up their walking shoes and embark on a journey that will be more than just a physical trek—it is a tribute to freedom, resilience, and the enduring spirit of the African American community. The event, a fundraising walk to honor Juneteenth, is graced by the presence of none other than Opal Lee, affectionately known as the "Grandmother of Juneteenth." Opal Lee, at 97 years young, radiates an energy and passion that is nothing short of inspiring. A revered educator and activist, Opal has been a tireless advocate for making Juneteenth a national holiday, a goal she saw realized in 2021. Her lifelong dedication to this cause stems from a deep personal connection and a profound understanding of its significance. As she will stand before the crowd, her eyes twinkled with a mix of determination and hope.
